The Capstan Shafts is the work of one Dean Wells, a songwriting mystic and dispenser of shimmering lo fi beauty. The Sleeved and Grandaughters of the Blacklist is rife with short, glorious bursts (20 songs in 26 minutes)of Anglophile pop and indie folk classicism recorded and mixed on 4-track cassette. The Sleeved and Grandaughters of the Blacklist, now out of print, was a limited edition, hand-packaged CDR release.

Press

“The best way to describe his music would be to say that he was raised solely on Belle and Sebastian and Elephant 6 demos. That can be the only explanation for it, this is just too good.”  - Skatterbrain!

“The overall tone of Capstan Shafts songs is intimate and heartbaring, but the lyrics entwine honest expressions of emotion (of regret, adoration, sadness, confusion) with surrealist imagery and humor.”  – Erasing Clouds
